Motorola To Provide Dutch Police With A State-Of-The-Art Biometrics Identification Solution

Motorola’s cutting edge automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) selected by Dutch police as their key identity tool

Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT), today announced it has been awarded a four-year contract by the Dutch national police agency, the Korps Landelijke Politie Diensten (KLPD), to provide its Motorola Printrak Biometric Identification Solution (Printrak BIS) to support all types of identification activities for the whole organisation of the Dutch Police.

The solution supports the use of rolled or plain fingerprints, as well as palm prints and latent identification services and biometric quality management processes.

“We’re delighted that the Dutch police has recognized that Motorola is able to deliver the most advanced biometric solution available and that they are entrusting us to implement the cornerstone for their identification chain,” stated Manuel Torres, vice president and general manager, Motorola Government & Public Safety, EMEA. “The contract with the Netherlands confirms Motorola’s leading position as the provider of the most accurate biometric matching technologies available on the market.”

idm-bis-screen-imageThe Dutch police set a new standard for biometric technology during the selection process and the Motorola solution has been designed to meet all the objectives. Specifically, the KLPD wanted to stay at the forefront of identification technologies and recognized that in order to meet the demand for rapid paperless responses, “real-time” identification, and biometric data exchanges with multiple European and international biometric systems, a new biometric solution was required. Following an extensive competitive process, which included accuracy testing and a cost of ownership comparison, Motorola’s solution was selected as the best offer.

bis02-si“Having conducted a thorough selection process, we were impressed with both the solution and the professional and capable attitude which Motorola were offering and are very happy to be partnering with them” stated Ron van Vemde MCDm, project manager, KLPD. “Motorola has equipped us with the most advanced technology in the field of biometrics and will undoubtedly help ensure our identification chain is as effective and accurate as possible for a long time into the future.”

Major features of the Motorola solution include the fastest and most accurate biometric matchers to support automatic, fast identification and verification processes, as well as a reduction in the amount of manual work required. Other key system features include:

Support for 1000 pixels per inch for tenprint, latent and palmprint images

Functionality that maximizes the potential for automated real-time identification, allowing KLPD to optimize the deployment of its skilled human resources

Offering the most advanced and open automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) architecture available

A software solution that is flexible and configurable to meet specific needs

System management processes to support cost efficiencies and faster access to data

Adaptable, extensible interfaces to other systems and workflows

Support for biometric mobility services and the move to a paperless workflow environment

Significantly reduce operational costs which also offer high system availability and reliability

Motorola’s biometric solution for KLPD incorporates a completely Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) matcher, which is both fast and accurate. This will enable the KLPD to deploy a system which is scaleable, upgradeable, robust, and easily maintained. The advanced solution fits into the existing IT infrastructure already deployed by the Dutch Police forces, though offers the flexibility to be easily extended to add functionality and services as they become needed at a later date.

Motorola has been developing biometrics solutions over 35 years and offers unrivaled product releases over the span of eight generations. Motorola has a comprehensive range of products which support biometric identification and verification; enrolment and verification solutions, latent software and mobile solutions to satisfy both civil and criminal requirements.
