Epson: New 16-bit Microcontroller Greatly Enhances Home Appliance Interfaces

Single-chip solution for controlling displays, touch panels, music & voice
Seiko Epson Corporation (“Epson,” TSE: 6724) today announced that it has recently developed a 16-bit microcontroller that enhances the user interface of control panels used in items such as white goods and factory automation equipment. Samples of the new microcontroller, called the S1C17803, will be available to ship from the end of March 2009. Epson expects to launch volume production in August 2009, with a monthly output of 500,000 units. The company plans to make the new microcontroller available in two package types, a TQFP (0.4-mm pitch) and a QFP (0.5-mm pitch).
Microcontrollers are essential for the increasingly complicated user interfaces employed on control panels for home …

Epson Toyocom Develops World’s Smallest 32.678-kHz Crystal Oscillator

Epson Toyocom Corporation, the leader in crystal devices, has developed the world’s smallest* 32.768-kHz crystal oscillator *1. The maximum dimensions of the new crystal oscillator, known as the SG-3050BC, are just 2.2 mm x 1.4 mm x 1.0t mm. With a footprint and cubic volume that are 70% and 75% smaller, respectively, than its predecessor, the new crystal oscillator will help electronic equipment manufacturers further downsize their products while boosting performance.
In today’s world 32.768-kHz crystal devices are indispensable as clocks, microcontroller subclocks and timer functions in a variety of applications, including compact portable consumer products such as cell phones and digital still cameras. They are also essential for industrial measuring instruments and machine tools and …
