OKI Develops Automatic Soldering Technology based on Static Pressure Bath to Enable Lead-free Soldering for Large, High-density Products

OKI expects to expand its EMS business through higher quality and shorter turnaround time
OKI Electric Industry (TSE: 6703) announced it has succeeded in developing “static pressure soldering technology” for lead-free soldering of large, high-density products. Using this technology, OKI and Nihon Dennetsu jointly developed a soldering machine that enables high-quality lead-free (Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu) soldering for products up to 490 x 510mm in size and 6mm in thickness.
“We believe this new ‘static pressure soldering technology’ will improve the soldering quality and production service for large, high density products at our EMS business in the Systems Network Plant in Japan’s Honjo district (Saitama Prefecture),” said Koh Shimizu, General Manager of EMS Business Manufacturing Service at OKI’s System Network …

Connecting PCs with Profibus and controllers with databases via Industrial Ethernet

The Siemens Industry Automation Division has developed two new communications processors for connecting PCs and S7-300 controllers to Profibus and Industrial Ethernet, respectively.
Simatic Net CP 5711 is an external adapter that links commercially available PCs to Profibus via their on-board USB 2.0 port. The Simatic Net CP 343-1 ERPC expansion module connects Simatic-S7-300 controllers with databases via Industrial-Ethernet.
The Simatic Net CP 5711 communications processor supports all MPI and Profibus communications services up to a rate of 12 Megabit/second, for example DP Master/DP Slave, S7/S5 and PG/OP. The module has a 24 Volt power supply connection in case the USB interface of the PC cannot supply sufficient power.

The new stationary 1D/2D code readers from the Siemens Industry Automation Division are characterized by their high reading reliability and speed as well as by diverse communication and connection possibilities. A primary use of the compact Simatic MV440 code-reading systems, which feature high protection rating IP67, is for reading data matrix codes such as direct part marks (DPMs) on objects under difficult ambient conditions in an industrial environment. Thanks to its flexible lighting options, the system can be adapted to the respective application. A new, compact, medium-resolution, belt speed sensor from the Siemens Industry Automation Division is suitable for any industrial application with belt-driven conveyor pulleys, for example in the primary industry. The lightweight, yet durable Sitrans WS100 is suitable in applications from -40 to +110 degrees Celsius (-40 to 164 degrees Fahrenheit). Typical applications include the mineral processing industry, in particular quarries or cement plants, with belt speeds up to 2 meters per second (392 feet per minute). The new sensor monitors the belt speed for input to an integrator, which calculates flow rate, total weight, belt load, and speed of bulk materials.
